Embracing the Joy of Numbers: Celebrating Maths Week England at CATALYST

Get ready to crunch numbers, explore patterns, and unlock the mysteries of the 'language of the universe' - because Maths Week England is here! It’s not just about what 7 billion plus 2 billion equals (hint: it’s a lot!), but about how we get there and the things we learn along the way.

Maths: More than Memorisation

Here's the thing: maths is more than rote memorisation. It's a creative adventure for your brain, a space where patterns emerge, connections form, and problems get solved. And guess what? You don’t need to have a "maths brain" to be part of this adventure. You might have found it tough to pin down formulas or felt a bit scattered when numbers came up. That’s okay. Because maths is also about resilience, curiosity, and discovery – things we value a lot at CATALYST.

This Year’s Competitions:

"Three Is A Magic Number" – Unleash Your Creativity!

This year's theme for Maths Week England is as magical as it gets – "Three Is A Magic Number." Why not let this magic spark your imagination? Grab your phone, get creative, and make a two-minute video showing why the number three is indeed magical. There's a shiny £100 prize for the best entry, so let the cameras roll and the numbers play.

Maths Is An Art Form – The A3 Challenge

Art and maths are more connected than you might think. They both celebrate patterns, symmetry, and beauty. That’s the inspiration behind the A3 challenge. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a hand-drawn piece of artwork on A3 paper that celebrates the number three. It’s a perfect way to show the world that maths isn’t just about calculations – it’s a form of art!

NRICHing Mathematics – Stretch Your Maths Muscles

The team at NRICH are crafting three snappy videos, each presenting a brainteaser tailored to different age groups. On the 13th of November, these challenges will set your mathematical wheels turning. You’ll have until Wednesday to submit your solutions, and selected ones will be shared on Friday.
